Our last day of the trip as we railfanned around Big Sandy some more and drove back to Houston. This was our least productive day, but we did get a few trains.
0:00 - In Gladewater, a UP freight with a C40-8 in need of some paint slows to a stop in the siding. The train also had a military vehicle in the consist!
UP 5322 - GE AC45CCTE
UP 9192 - GE C40-8
2:59 - Back in Big Sandy, the Amtrak, probably the Texas Eagle, slowly rolls through the diamonds as another UP freight waits. Like the Amtrak from yesterday, the coach behind the diesel was filthy!
AMTK 69 - GE P42DC
5:05 - Soon afterward, the UP freight leaves with a few shaves-and-haircuts.
UP 4992 - EMD SD70M
UP 4716 - EMD SD70M
6:40 - After the previous train, a stack train pulls up at the same spot, but Dad and I left before the train left.
UP 4239 - EMD SD70M
UP 4914 - EMD SD70M
6:48 - Several scenic pictures from our drive to Houston, mainly on Highway 59 on the Lufkin sub. In Shepherd, there was a CSX pipe train stopped in the siding with UP 5011 leading and a nice CSX lashup; I think there was a YN2 SD40-2ish unit also! I didn't get any pictures of the train though since it was buried around the trees. Outside of Cleveland, we saw an extremely rare sight: a full KCS train stopped on the main line!!! I'm not sure if it was a reroute or if KCS now has trackage rights here, but it was definitely cool!
KCS 3946 - EMD SD70MAC
KCS 4609 - GE AC44CW
KCS 4707 - GE ES44AC
